Gloomy, greedy, selfish and posessive are all words that easily describe Arietta. She is often very depressed, having lost the one she loves. On the outside, all you can really see is a broken little girl. A little girl that has lost all she had, including her very sanity. Having lost Ion, she refuses to believe it. She tells herself every single day that he will come for her again, just like he did on the day she met him. She is so sure that she genuinely refuses to believe anything else.
However, the Arietta that we do not know is the kind and gentle Arietta. Although she was raised by the violent Ligers, she cares for others. She loves, she mourns. She cares very much, perhaps more than most people. She does not easily connect to humans, but she cares very much for the creatures who provided family and love to her when no one of her kind would. She calls them her friends and gets very upset when they are hurt.
Arietta gets very cheerful when Ion is mentioned, and even more cheerful when told that he is dead. She always denies that he's dead with a big smile on her face. On the inside though...she knows that they're right. And each time she forces a smile onto her lips, she dies just a little more. And yet, she keeps smiling. She doesn't want to be crying or screaming when Ion finds her. She's done being that person that always cried and didn't do anything to help herself. Sometimes...that doesn't stop the tears though. And despite that, it is still easily evident that she is quite depressed. However, she is much more cheerful than she was before Ion died. She has become very good at pretending.
Essentially, Arietta acts cheerful, but very depressed at the same time. She is always frowning when no one is looking...and sometimes says very sad things. However, she tends to smile a lot. Often, when she's crying in private, she also tends to laugh. Sometimes she'll tell herself that she can't cry, because she has to be strong. It was because she was weak that he took her off the guard. It was because Anise was stronger. If she was stronger than Anise, maybe Ion would take her back...
Really, Arietta is simply a broken-hearted teenage girl. After some time, she might come to terms with Ion's death. She might become severely depressed at that point and do something drastic...but perhaps if she has the right friends, she might pull through. At that point, she might be sad for a while, but little smiles might start appearing. She might become a little more open.
Her heart has a big hole in it, perhaps all she needs is for someone to fill it up.

"Ion died, Arietta..."
"No, no you're wrong." She smiled softly. "He's still alive. Ion can't die...! He's coming for me..."
Arietta the Wild was born on the Isle of Feris, the sister Island of Hod. After losing her parents to the aftershock of Hod being destroyed, she was raised by ligers. Her mother was the Liger Queen, her brothers and sisters were the Liger Queen's children. During this time of her life, Arietta learned the language of these creatures, and thus can speak to all creatures. Thus, earning the name "Arietta the Wild."
On the destroyed island of Feres, Arietta was found by the original Fon Master Ion. Although she was angry that this person was in her territory and attacked him, he (simply loving that the score didn't affect her) still took the feral child as his pet and taught her human language. She became his top Fon Master Guardian and was a very useful person to have following him. Arietta quickly grew to love Ion and wanted to protect him more than anything. She never wanted to be seperated from him. She loved him...so much.
However, it soon came to pass that the Fon Master would die. Ion replaced himself with a replica, his final thoughts of his lovely pet. His final thoughts being that he didn't want to leave her alone. Van, however, did not tell Arietta about the Fon Master's death, believing that she may commit suicide if she were to find out. She was removed from Ion's ranks and was instead placed with the Six God Generals. Despite the fact that she believes that Ion was "taken from her" by the new Fon Master Guardian, Anise, Arietta is still filled with hope.
Even though Arietta was confused about Ion's sudden personality change and being abandoned, she never gave up. She became depressed, but never went over the edge. She still believed that at any moment, Ion would take her back...and they could go back to how they used to be. She believed this with all her heart, and she refused to believe anything otherwise. Ion...the one she loves...he wouldn't ever abandon her! It was impossible... So she just had to be patient, right?
She was wrong. Everything began to fall apart when her "mama" was killed. Luke Fon Fabre...his friends...they were the ones who killed her mother. The Liger Queen. They killed the one who raised her. They killed her brothers and sisters! They had to pay...but...but...then Ion (the raplica) was siding with them! What was she supposed to do? She was confused. She didn't know what to do. So she fought. She fought and fought. She wanted revenge...no, she needed revenge. Not only had these people taken Ion from her, but they had killed her mother.
When the replica Ion died...Arietta was devastated. She blamed Anise completely for the death of the one she loved. She challenged her to a duel to the death, not caring whether or not she died. After all...she had no purpose now, right? Ion couldn't take her back if he was dead...
And then it occured to her.
He wasn't dead. He couldn't be dead...that was...absolutely impossible! There must have been a mistake. Ahh, he was just confused. He was hiding. That must be it. That had to be it. Because...Ion couldn't be dead. He just couldn't.
When it was believed that Arietta died in the duel to the death, she had fled. She took flight into the Cheagle Woods and once again shed her identity as human. If she simply went back to how it all began...then perhaps it would happen again. Perhaps Ion would find her in the forest and take her back. Maybe...just maybe...everything could go back to how it used to be. With brand new hope, Arietta made her home in the cave where her mother died and cared for the creatures of the forest. She particularly befriends one monster who, although looking hideous, was actually very kind.
Yes...everything would go as it was supposed to. Ion would come back to her...everything would be okay again.
Right?
Right. Arietta went to the near town and stole some new clothes, refusing her rank from that day forward. She also found a little hat with cat ears on it. Fond, she now wears it every day. She likes to think that it makes her look more wild.

Arietta laid her head on the warm belly of the monster that was sharing a den with her. She was smiling softly and playing with a colorful pebble that she had found in the forest. Her hat was laying beside her, as it interfered with being comfortable. The cave was quiet aside from the signature drips somewhere in the distance and the raspy breathing of the two-headed monster that she was laying on.
"Berieneth..." She said in the tongue of monsters. "When do you think Ion will come...?" She turned over to lay on her belly and smiled at the creature. "I'm sure he'll be happy to see me..." She gently petted the creature as she spoke. "Maybe he'll be hungry! Oh, I should go find some food for him then, shouldn't I?"
The ex-General stood up, smiling. "Berieneth, is there anything you want...?" She waited for his response of growls and barks, then sighed. "Bird...? But those are so hard to catch... Mmn...I suppose I'll try..."
Arietta nodded and turned to leave, but then paused and turned around.
"Oh, and Berieneth...?" She was smiling. "Protect our home. It's all we've got, right...?" With that, she nodded and left the den. Little did she know, however, that Berieneth would now be protecting their home to the death. When before, he might have tried to run away if someone attacked, now he was determined to defend it.
Berieneth nodded as she left, then sat on his haunches, ready to protect his...no...their home.
