Mika only kept looking at Jill. Really... how could some humans be so ignorant? 'Don't worry about what you can't change' shouldn't necessarily mean 'forget about everything that happened in the past.' Were they intending to repeat the same mistakes?
"Two thousand years ago, a demon managed to break free from their realm and threatened to destroy the Human world," she started. "And she was joined by the Elemental of Darkness, Lord Haemon. Because of this, it took all of the remaining Elementals to stop them, however... " She felt her chest tighten, turning her gaze away. After a few moments of silence she stood, for once glad that her attire allowed even her fisted hands to remain hidden. "Daniel was forced to fight the demon alone, and nearly succeeded in defeating her. Haemon, however, intervened, and ripped out his wings, and Daniel was easily slain. Naturally, however, we Elementals succeeded, the demon killed, and Haemon exiled." She shook her head, resisting the urge to summon her lance. It seemed later, when these children were asleep, she would have to find some way to quell her anger.
"The Humans were angry, however. They blamed Daniel for the destruction of their world. So I created a separate realm for the Angels, where we now reside. We do not visit the humans, and have not in over two thousand years. Only the Elementals come out from time to time, simply to ensure that Kouderra does not fall to ruin."
And even still, she silently noted, it had been harder. Without the Elemental of Wind, there was nothing really keeping the air on Kouderra pure, or even there. She had improvised, naturally, by using what she could from the remnants of his powers, even if it had been steadily fading over the years. In fact, it was a good, really, that Alex had been born as an Elemental. Hopefully the damage could be reversed.

Well, that was certainly news to her. She was always withdrawn from learning these things, and clearly it was for good reasons. She was angered by how things turned out. But, something kept eating away at her. Something that honestly, probably shouldn't have been.
"Does this mean Haemon was named after that monster? That's... Where I live." she opened her eye rather wide in shock at the story. Such powerful creatures existed and she was totally unaware. Now, she just felt like a jerk. Sure, she couldn't do anything to otherwise make a difference one way or the other about the past, but she didn't even remotely know enough to try and help with anything. Up until now, she just did her job and lived her life. How could she do so when those around her had not the same luxury?
"I feel stupid now. How could I just go about my day like this when others around me know these stories and don't try to fix things?" she sighed, and while it may be risky, she moved a hand to Mika's shoulder.
"My lady, forgive my ignorance. Had I known, I would have tried to do something about this. But, now I do know." her expression was solemn, and self loathing at this point. She was upset with herself for now trying to do something that may help bring back the friendships that used to exist.
"I can't just live my own way anymore, I hope you know. Now that I know this, I'm not going to rest until I can manage to make a difference for the better. I'll do whatever it takes... I don't want to live in a world so full of hate when I have the ability to change it."

She didn't react when Jill placed a hand on her shoulder, didn't say anything as the human child kept speaking. Really, did she honestly think that things could be mended so easily? "Look what you freaks did! Our home... our world... it's destroyed because of you!"
"Get out! Leave! You're not welcome here!"
"How can you just—!"
"Daniel died t' save ya, ungrateful little—!" The wounds had not healed, and would never heal. No amount of time would ever make her get over that day. Brushing off Jill's hand, Mika turned to face her. "It won't be that easy. And I have no intention of rejoining the realms until I know the Humans have understood their mistake. We gave them safety, security, ensured the land was fertile, ensured they had the air they needed, prevented natural disasters that would otherwise have destroyed their world. And they forgot that all in the face of one disaster that we could not handle completely.""M-My lady, there is... there is nothing we can do... "
"Ya gotta be kiddin'... "
"What're you waiting for?! Leave!"

Her words were hollow, it seemed. Jill couldn't reach the one she wanted to, and she was running out of ideas. How could she, a mere human, possibly aid in the restoration of bonds that were severed so long ago? She wasn't sure, but she was definitely going to try.
"You're right. It won't be easy." she said, taking out her most prized possession. The gem she was born with. "But I'm used to things being hard. Do you know how far down I was born underground? Deep enough that I was born next to one of these."
She put it away, as it was still something she held in great care.
"I now mine these things myself. Alone. That's really deep underground. And all I have to protect me re the helmet on my head and the clothes on my body. I'm used to difficult tasks."
She raised her eyepatch, revealing once again the gem in place of her eye. "And no matter the cost, I'm not gonna give up on something once I set my mind to it. I promise you, my lady, that now that I know of the stupidity of my ancestors, I won't rest until I've brought respect for your people back to my own."

She was a strange human, Mika noted. So strange, in fact, that she almost felt inclined to believe her, to trust that she could maybe repair those bonds. However, she had not gone through these long years with such naive thoughts.
A small laugh escaped her, and the angel reached out and replaced Jill's eyepatch before running a hand through some strands in her hair. "You," she started, a ghost of a smile on her lips, "are far more arrogant than I gave you credit for. I will not stop you in your endeavour." She also wouldn't help. She was not about to set herself up for disappointment. And this was also something the Humans as a race needed to fix. Angels were far more forgiving by nature when presented with enough proof. The elves would blindly follow them for as long as they wished, for their only desire was peace.

It seemed clear that she was serious. And she was, to an extent, doing this partially for herself as well. She was a miner her entire life, and knew nothing of the outside world. Speaking to this woman, she knew that she had to change this. She couldn't mine in peace knowing her products were being sold to horrible people. Everything she did was with love, and she refused to allow that love be spread and enjoyed by racists.
"I'll learn how to fight if I have to. But I'm not letting you down, my lady."
She spotted something odd on the ground, and a smile came to her. This would be an interesting discovery out here in the middle of nowhere.
"Well, what have we here? Looks like it's my lucky day."
She took her pickaxe, and lightly tapped the ground, directly on the spot she was looking at. To anyone else, this would seem like absolutely nothing out of the ordinary. However, to her eye, it was evident that something lay below the ground here. She tapped it a few more times, leaving a small dot in the ground, marking the spot that seemed safest.
"I'm gonna go ahead and get something to promise this to you. Collateral, you know?"
She took her entrenching tool from her belt, and unfolded it. A wonderful design, really. A shovel that folded up, that doubled as an axe and a hammer. She forcefully made one deep cut into the ground, from which came a red powder. Perfect. Digging a circular hole around the spot, she unearthed ruby powder, which was rather valuable. So, it seemed there were similar gems on this world. The powder was quickly placed into a small bag, and the bag was tightened and sealed to the point that one couldn't squish anything inside it or re-shape it. It was only a small deposit, but it was something.
"If you hold onto gem powders, and superheat them, they become pure gems. Pure gems are very, very rare and extremely valuable, and it takes a lot of time to make them. I promise, by the time this ruby is made, I'll have made a difference."
She bowed and offered the bag of powder to Mika.

Honestly speaking, Mika was well aware of how gem powders were used. She could even, right here and now, take the very bag of powder offered to her by Jill to make a gem in a matter of seconds, but something told her that would ruin all sense of meaning in the promise. Azure eyes narrowed for a second before she gingerly took the bag of powder in her hands, holding it gently. The angel continued to look at it for a while longer before finally directing her gaze up at Jill.
"Very well," she said, the bag of powder quickly glowing, brighter and brighter until it looked like a fragment of the sun itself, shrinking down until it formed a small crystal resembling one of the many adorning her headdress. Mika placed the newest gem to the base of her neck, concentrating for a moment before allowing her hands to drop back at her side. The bag-turned-jewel stayed in place. "In this form, the powder will be heated at the highest level you humans are capable of. I will not take it off until the day it is complete. And on that day, should things have changed on Kouderra, I will consider rejoining the Human and Angel realms."
