CHAPTER ONE
________________________________________________________
It began with the metallic clang of a grappling hook, grabbing hold of the fist of the one known only to those around him as Sentinel. The one attacking him, his large bionic arm and all, dragged himself effortlessly into Sentinel's fist, getting tossed aside and hitting a wall roughly, his grappling claw disengaged and he fell, only to back backed up by the bat girl, Morrigan.
"Spencer, can you do nothing right?" she joked with a laugh, firing a Soul Fist which was immediately routed by Sentinel Force. A Neutralizer hit her head on then, and caused her to hit the same wall. Spencer gave her a smug look and jumped ahead.
"You're one to talk." he helped her up, and they readied a team attack. He wound his arm back.
"Bionic..."
Morrigan pushed against the air, creating a reflection of herself which grabbed Sentinel from behind.
"Now!" she yelled, firing a Soul Fist from the air at Sentinel to distract him.
"AAARM!" Spencer flew forward, his bionic arm forming a very heavy bionic fist and his iron boots pushing so hard against the ground that he was propelled to fast for Sentinel to react. He went flying into the air from the hit, and Morrigan flew up, performing several aerial strikes before spiking him with her sharpened boots, directly into Spencer's grapple. From the grapple, Morrigan cut upward into a Shadow Blade, carrying Sentinel up and Spencer reeled him in.
"Party time!" Spencer said, cocky expression decorating his features as he punched Sentinel into Morrigan's next maneuver.
"Dodge this." she said with a seductive inflection as per her normal speaking voice, launching hundreds of missiles from a large mechanism that appeared behind her seemingly out of nowhere. Sentinel, taking the full force, was then pulled back down by Spencer.
"So long, sucker!" his sarcastic tone followed with a punch back into the air, which he followed by jumping to meet his foe, kicking him so hard he bounced off the wall. He turned to Morrigan before Sentinel even began to land, and smirked.
"You ready for this?" he said, catching Sentinel and dragging him in. He then punched Sentinel while holding him in the grapple several times, then released and launched him again, only to drag him back down and punch him into the corner.
"This is it!"
Sentinel's HP bar was drained, and the simulation ended. Morrigan and Spencer congratulated each other on a job well done. Spencer returned to the lobby and sat down on the couch available, crossing his legs and sprawling, taking up the entire couch. Morrigan made her own seat... Out of bats. Both awaited grading from their superior, whom was unnamed.
"So," Spencer started in, "Why'd you come to the island?"
Morrigan laughed and laid back on her floating bat seat, crossing her legs and making no indication of hiding anything that shouldn't be showing.
"The party, of course. And you, lad?"
"I've lost everything else, but I'm not gonna lose an opportunity to take out BioReign." his expression was grim, if only a moment. BioReign were responsible for the Ascension City attack, and the reason his life almost ended. He caught himself before he fell, using his arm to slowly fall at a much safer pace, and landed safe enough to rest. When he awoke, a sign was next to his body on a wall, that read:
"Come to Marcap Island, and BioReign will be yours to take revenge on."
He really was just going on instinct entirely. Neither he nor his current partner understood what was going on here. Their invitations said completely different things. Hers said:
"Marcap Island; the perfect getaway for rowdy singles."
She saw it as a useful place to gain power.
A door opened along the side of the room they were in, and a man clutching water bottles walked in. He wore nothing unusual, just a business suit. His stance was very robotic, as if he weren't alive at all.
"Welcome to our lovely Marcap Island. Nathan Spencer and Morrigan Aensland, I presume."
Spencer raised his human arm, waving dismissively.
"That's us. You're room service?" he asked, to which the man shook his head.
"I am the guest activity planner. Allow me to apologize for the lack of a proper room for both of you. Your arrival was early, and all rooms go in threes, so we had to wait until someone arrived alone."
Morrigan laughed in her typical Morrigan seductive tone.
"And when will we be able to see our rooms? I am sure I have been partnered with those similar to... Myself." she winked, implying she expected Jedah to arrive.
"You and Nathan have performed exceptionally well in our simulation, scoring a teamwork rating of B+, and a solo skill rating of D+. You will be put in the same room as noted by this, and someone with exceptional skill in your lacking area will occupy your third slot."
Morrigan showed no exceptional problem with sharing a room with a guy. The only problem was, she couldn't "use" him. She needed him on her team.
"So, you never did tell us. What's with the whole teaming up thing?" asked Spencer. The man turned his attention as noted, and responded robotically.
"Marcap Island accomodations are done in threes, as are activities. The fighting tournament is a triple tag team venture, and all guest activity comes in three ticket form. I trust you two will be okay with meeting your partner soon?"
Morrigan and Spencer both shrugged, and wondered who it would be. The man droned on, and the rest of his explanation was vastly ignored.
"Any questions?" he asked, to which Morrigan raised a hand.
"What are the... Night time activities?" she asked, winking. The man left the room.
"Shut down." Spencer said, taking in the entire water bottle at once like a beast that was dying of thirst. Morrigan daintily sipped at hers, and the two discussed team strategies for a while. Anything from having Morrigan provide constant energy for intense moves with her Dark Harmonizer, to the very same maneuver they pulled off against the Sentinel training dummy. It would be over an hour until they ventured outside, to see a beautiful island jungle in the distance. The beach was below them, occupied by a cocky looking man with a strange suitcase, chugging what looked like hard booze, a man in what could only be described as a red and black ninja outfit, and a white haired boy. To the left, they saw a man in a skeleton costume giving fighting lessons, and a sign that said "This business funded by Tricell" being held by a woman that Morrigan personally knew; Hsien-Ko. Seems like things were already picking up. Spencer and Morrigan were the only ones here who weren't in a set of three.
"Hope our third guy's not a douche." Spencer said smugly. Morrigan nodded in agreement, jumping off the railing to fly down to the beach and inevitably hit on the boys below. She was looking to gain power. Spencer sighed, shrugged, and swung his way down on his wire grapple to hopefully keep her from causing any problems. It was down on this very same beach that the same man came to meet them, from out of nowhere.
"Nathan, Morrigan, your partner has arrived. He is currently awaiting you in the north biodome of the island.
"Woah what, biodomes?" Spencer inquired.
"The island is divided into eight slices. There are four biodomes to simulate seasons, at the cardinal directions, and in between them are different terrain changed. You are currently in terrain southwest, the tropical terrain, where no fighting is allowed. Once you enter a biodome, any other team of three can attack you. The tournament is single elimination, and once you lose, your entire team is shipped back home with no prize."
Morrigan's ears perked, and she approached the man.
"What prize would that be?" she asked, in an almost pleading seductive tone.
"One wish, granted by the Power Cosmic itself."
They both stopped in their tracks, and looked to him.
"Each." he specified.
"Holy shit." Spencer whistled. "Not a bad deal. What say we go meet our third guy?" he gave a confident urge to Morrigan to follow him. The man was left in the dust as they took off toward the biodome.
"Your partner's name is Victor Von Doom." he said to nobody, further showing his robotic, one track mind. Where our heroes go after this, is uncertain. But they will meet their partner, and many tales await them.
