You will be sorted into a usergroup upon creation of your first ORIGINAL character. A usergroup is based solely on alliances, and your usergroup will be whatever alliance your first OC is. So, let's say you make a Crusader as your first OC. You would then be sorted into the Crusader usergroup.
This does NOT limit you to only making Crusaders! It is only this way because we assume that your first OC is your most important or favorite character, and we want the site to reflect that of them.
What does a usergroup do? Well, nothing, really. But it looks better than New Member on your profile, no?
Everything on site is spread out for a reason. Let's say two people make a thread to roleplay just with each other. They don't want anyone else interrupting, right? They can start a thread in one of the boards, give it a catchy title, and tell people it's only for you and character B.
Not only will this eliminate the problem of losing your place, it makes everything more open and adds more exploration to the roleplay. I hope you all like this system!
Now I bet you're wondering: "What do I do if I want to be in a larger group?" This is also solved easily. Put "Open" on the thread you start to tell people that anyone is welcome! This can lead to large amounts of chaos though, too, so be sure you know what you're doing!
Another matter is the alliance camps. These are created solely for the purpose of allowing the alliances to make plans and talk amongst themselves without a threat. Let's say you're a Deity. You want to attack some Crusaders, but lack the manpower. Post a thread about it in your camp! You'll find that, in every camp, there is a "living space". For the neutrals, this is an Inn. This is where you can converse with only members of your group.
Now as to why there are no towns listed: That leaves the entire world open to roam and explore! Having a world listed means you can travel anywhere in that world you want. Of course, you can go into any of the worlds you like as well. You're not limited to one world!
Are the camps for alliances in any specific world? Nope! It s implied that there is a camp for each alliance in each world, but making a camp for every alliance in every world would just be silly. So, to group the camps together in one solid place, there are specific sections for camps!
Any questions? Feel free to ask!
